8 Scenic Spots of Hongu
Mt. Nanakoshi (262 m above sea level)
This is on the town’s hiking trail with pilgrim’s mountain range to the north, Hongu landscape under your eyes, azalea flowers in bloom in spring, and tinted leaves in autumn. An inn is located on the top of the mount. Legend has it that mountain ascetics practiced their 1,000-day training. Buddhist monk Saigyo read a poem during his Kumano pilgrim.

(Take Route 168 toward Shingu, and then cross Sonaezaki Bridge before Ukegawa.)
